Bundled deals that include your phone and broadband certainly look like great value on paper, but it pays to do your sums. Here's what you need to know

Bundled deals that include your phone and broadband certainly look like great value on paper, but it pays to do your sums.

If the line rental is more expensive than an "unbundled" arrangement, you might not be saving very much.

Some plans, like Optus' 'yes' Fusion, reserve most of the savings for your phone calls. As we pointed out here, a standalone broadband plan might be a better deal if you're not making lots of calls.

That's not to say bundling won't save you money. NetSpace's ADSL2+ 10 Anytime with Netspace line rental costs a total of $29.95 per month, compared with $39.95 for the unbundled package.
