Microsoft has opened its Windows Marketplace for Mobile app store to developers, and as an incentive is offering prizes for the most popular apps submitted
Microsoft became the latest company to jump on the app store bandwagon this week, and officially opened its Windows Marketplace for Mobile store to developers on Monday.
Developers from 29 countries will be able to put forward their app submissions for inclusion in the store, and to give them a little nudge to do so Microsoft is offering up prizes for the most popular applications.
This will apparently be judged on things such as number of downloads, the cash it pulls in and usefulness.
"Our strategy for all of this is pretty straightforward; we want to create a global marketplace for Windows Phones where developers and users meet to sell and buy high quality and high value applications that make work easier and life more fulfilling," said Todd Brix, leader of the new app store.
Similarly to other app stores, developers will be able make money from their applications, and users will be able to download the apps direct to their phone or to their PC. There will also be a money back guarantee, although no deets on how this would work as yet.
