When was the last time you cleaned your keyboard? Reports about the number of germs contained on common office keyboards are a perennial favourite - some tests claim that your plastic keyboard may be nastier than you think.
In fact, the innocuous looking keyboard might contain 400 times more germs than a toilet seat, if this press release is to be believed.
The company behind the queasy statistics, Seal Shield, is marketing a curious solution - a fully submersible keyboard that's dishwasher safe. By this, the manufacturers don't just mean water proof - seals protect the gold USB connector, and the "laser etched" keys are guaranteed not to fade during the punishing cleaning cycle.
For those particularly sensitive to germs, the keyboard has microbe and "odor causing" bacteria inhibitors embedded in the plastic. Not only will your keyboard be clean, but it won't smell.
If you've been eyeing your ratty TV remote suspiciously, Seal Shield can do something about that too.
Using special plastic in keyboards to inhibit germs isn't new - in 2008 Lenovo announced a desktop PC, the IdeaCentre K210, which had a special anti-microbial keyboard.
