Is OS 3.0 causing iPhone 3GS WiFi woes?

Apple's discussion forums are a flutter with tales of WiFi problems on the iPhone 3G and 3GS. Is OS 3.0 to blame?

The iPhone OS 3.0 is causing WiFi connectivity problems for a large number of iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS owners. The Unofficial Apple Weblog has spotted fourteen threads adding up to over six hundred messages on Apple's online support forums.

After updating to iPhone OS 3.0, WiFi on the phone either decreases or vanishes entirely. Signal strength bars can still be displayed but internet connectivity is nowhere to be found.

A range of solutions to the problem have been suggested from the basic (changing settings) to the mildly insane (putting the phone in the freezer).

The next software update, iPhone OS 3.1, has already been released developers. It may include a bugfix to sort out the issue but that's not guaranteed.

So far, the features uncovered in the OS 3.1 update include tweaks to iPhone 3GS video editing, voice control over Bluetooth and new APIs to enable third party apps to access videos and edit them.

Have you experienced issues with your WiFi connectivity since updating to iPhone OS 3.0? Let us know in the comments or hop over the forums to suggest your solutions.
