More Lucasarts classics coming to a PC near you, including Indiana Jones

by Daniel Long  on Jul 7, 2009
In another cunning attempt to convince the world that playing 16-colour 90s style point and click adventure gaming is still a worthwhile pursuit, Lucasarts and Steam are re-releasing eight classic games

Hot on the heels of the Monkey Island re-release comes another eight Lucasarts classics to the Steam online games network, including Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Indy classic, Fate of Atlantis

These lost wonders include The Dig, LOOM, Star Wars Battlefront 2 and that little known Indiana Jones adventure that would have made a much better script for the fourth film than the Kingdom of the Crystal X-files heads, with those bat crazy flying alien spaceships. Yes, we're talking about Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis - a testament to the lost art of great game writing.

So Mr Lucas, what are you up to?

These Steam releases follow the imminent release  of another classic Lucasarts title, The Secret of Monkey Island.

Speaking of that coveted title, Grumpy Gamer, a blog written by one of the original developers of the game, has an interesting look back on how the game was made. It seems there are some things he would change about the original game, although 15 years of hindsight can do that to you.

With the news of Fate of Atlantis taking up space in the online gaming treasure chest, we're not sure what's going to have classic gamers breathing heavier. Monkey Pirates or Indiana Jones?

That Indiana Jones title is a sure-win sentimental favourite for fans all over the world and as much as we like to reminisce the fun of Moneky Island, it's these other Lucasarts releases that we wish would bypass Steam and go straight to re-release.

Not everybody has access to Steam. There must be a lot of people wanting these games as a standalone retail releae. Surely, George Lucas could simply re-title the re-released titles (all on one DVD of course) as a special limited edition release?

Come on George, it worked for Star Wars didn't it?
