Skype 4.1 is out of beta and is ready for download by hungry Windows users – form an orderly queue now please

Skype 4.1 has just slipped out of beta and gone all official on us. The newly minted version of the VoIP service offers a slew of new functionality that's bound to excite recession–hardened money savers everywhere.

The new release includes screen sharing, which means you can now see what's going on on other folks computers in real time. You can choose either full screen or pick which area of real estate you want your buddy to see. Either way it's ideal for helping friends fix issues with their PC or read over their work.

It's now also possible to send contacts to friends and you even get birthday reminders, just in case your myriad social network pages forget to keep you bang up–to–date. Video and call quality have also been upped.

As well as the new Windows version, there's Skype 1.1 for iPhone and iPod touch, with access to voicemail and SMS. WinMo users also get an overhauled version.

Will you be downloading Skype 4.1 for Windows? Tell us your thoughts down below.
