Derided by Apple fans, the laptop hunters marketing promotion has drawn a fair amount of attention since it began in the US.
In the American version, a college aged man is given US$1500 to resist the sex appeal of the Mac and find a PC that features power, portability and performance in a value price. View the original video below:
The local campaign started yesterday and runs until Friday 12th June - but this time there's AU$1300 for each laptop hunter. At least they got the exchange rate close.
Earlier this year, Microsoft management declared Apple laptops to be nothing more than over priced logos. No wonder they're keen to show how far $1300 will go.
Radio station Nova will be handling the contestant selection process, although it looks to be aimed primarily at the East Coast audience for now. Nova radio stations in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney will be running special clues via Twitter, Windows Instant Messenger (IM) and email in order to find one lucky contestant selected each day for the promotion.
If you're keen on buying a cheap laptop on Microsoft's credit card, this could be your lucky week. Although, we can't promise that you won't have to appear in one of those dorky laptop hunter YouTube clips.
At $1300 a piece, this is possibly the cheapest advertising Microsoft may ever spend. And that's in a year when Microsoft has been reported to be spending up to $80 million in order to promote their search engine, 'Bing'.
