Apparently wanting to put its finger in all manner of laptop pies, Acer has announced it is to launch a 3D notebook in October
Following on from the news of the not quite Android netbook set to hit in Q3 this year, Acer has now outed plans for a 3D notebook due to arrive overseas at the end of October.
The guys at Digitimes are reporting that the 15.6-inch netbook has been developed in partnership with Wistron, and boasts built-in software that will convert your standard 2D movies in to 3D.
How good that will be remains to be seen, but we'd expect the direct 3D movie support to be the better feature of the notebook.
The downside to this whole idea is that currently you're going to have to wear those rather unattractive stereoscopic glasses to get the desired 3D effect. However, Acer big boss Campbell Kan has said the company is working on a version that will allow you to ditch these, but it might take some time to get right.
The laptop will come packing Windows 7, and so Kan has promised an official announcement and more details once the OS has been launched, as well as news on the company's entrance into the smartbook market in 2010.
We'll keep you updated, but in the meantime be sure to check out Stuff.tv's hands on video with the Acer Timeline laptop.
