Foxtel Box Office movies just a mobile call away

Previously, Foxtel iQ and iQ2 subscribers needed a working home line to order movies. Now, in the age of Naked DSL and mobile phones, Foxtel now let you order movies from any phone device.

This latest move by Foxtel to offer their video on demand service from any phone; landline or mobile is sure to invite additional wrinkles for many small video store owners.

Previously, users were confined to a connected return path (direct line) from the IQ box to their landline. However that wasn't very suitable for those of us without landlines.

With the surging popularity of broadband options such as naked DSL, many homes have ditched their landlines in favour of a VOIP/mobile mix. And we're guessing that's partly the reason that why Foxtel tipped their hat to their subscribers and made it easier to grab a movie on demand.

The erosion of the traditional DVD store is now complete. With this new Foxtel Box Office simplicity,  subscribers can get their favourite flicks without having to set foot outside the door.  Pretty good, considering the weather out there lately.

Movies can be ordered via one handy 1300 number. The same movie on demand service applies, in addition to be able now to order online. However, iQ2 subscribers will not be able to download HD Box Office movies without a phone line, a minor flaw in Foxtel's otherwise encouraging plan.

"Our technical team have changed the order signal to be sent via the Foxtel connection rather than the phone landline", said Foxtel Executive Director of Sales and Product Development, Patrick Delany.
