Storm in a tea cup? Source hints at new Blackberry range for next 18 months

by Daniel Long  on May 12, 2009
RIM, makers of the Blackberry smartphone, are expected to abandon the trackball in all future models and replace it with a laptop sensor pad. We have the sneaky details here

Our friends over at iTnews have informed us that the entire Blackberry range is about to undergo a stunning makeover.

iTnews editor Brett Winterford has been told by internal RIM sources that in all future models of the Blackberry, the once-standard trackball will be replaced with a snazzy laptop sensor pad. And that will likely annoy or excite die-hard Blackberry users.

In addition, RIM are also expected to announce a Blackberry Bold successor in the next six months. It too is expected to undergo vast hardware changes, combining a QWERTY keyboard with a touch screen, much like we're seeing from other manufactuers such as Nokia.

iTnews go on to mention that the Storm II is likely to be a great deal more advanced than its predecessor.  A cheaper model of the Blackberry curve is also on the drawing board. Less than US$300 for a Curve? Sounds like RIM are finally reading the signs of the global recession.

For more details about the 2009 to 2011 Blackberry roadmap, check out iTnews.
