Hitachi releases 300GB enterprise hard disk

by Tim Dean  on Feb 26, 2004

Hitachi today announced the world's first 300GB, 10,000rpm hard disk, targeted at the high-capacity, high-performance enterprise market. The Hitachi Ultrastar 10K300 drive comes in a standard 3.5in form factor, and uses Ultra 320 SCSI or 2Gb/s Fibre Channel for connectivity. It is also available in 146GB, 73GB and 30GB flavours.

The only other 300GB hard disk available at the moment is Maxtor's consumer targeted, 5,400rpm IDE drive.

In 2002 Hitachi partnered with IBM to research, develop and manufacture hard disks under Hitachi branding.
