Samsung fake it big time with the Ultra Touch phone

by Daniel Long  on May 1, 2009
"I suspect you're being a tad over sensitive there Taz. probably comes of owning an Iphone. Or using facebook... just toying with you mate.;) The Samsung sounds like a cool phone though."

Now here's an idea you don't see advertised in phones very often - Samsung's Ultra Touch comes loaded with a program that can pretend to call you to get you out of those awkward social moments.

Although it won't help you convince your friends that you're any cooler (you'll probably need an iPhone for that), jokes aside - the Samsung Ultra Touch offers 'Fake it', a fake calling app to make it easier for you to duck out and take that 'important phone call'.

The fake call app will even play a recorded message to pretend that somebody is chatting to you on the other line. All you have to do is nod, smile and shake your head a few times in multiple directions, with a couple of yep's and ahuh's thrown in for good measure.

The Ultra Touch still has a keyboard, but the big buzz speak with this phone is the 2.8" AMOLED touch screen. Samsung are manufacturing devices with an an organic LED screen material, much the same way as Sony uses OLED in their walkman products.

The phone is supermodel thin (13mm) and features an 8MP camera - quite a world away from the 2MP camera on the iPhone.  It also comes with geo-tagging to log your photo locations.

One little program we liked as much as the fake caller is "Find Music'. 10 seconds of a recorded clip can be sent to a recognition server and instantly return the artist and title of the song you selected. Clubbers are going to love this. That is, if you still have any friends left to go out with. Now all we need is a group of friends we hardly know, to make us feel good. Hang on a second, I think it's called Facebook.

I am not sure if the article was intended as an Iphone bash .. but both mentioned APPs are available for free for the Iphone.
I have an Iphone and will admit the camera is terrible.. that being said I have a camera to take pictures with.. the phone camera is more of a photo note taking device for emergency.
Also the Facebook and MySpace apps on the Iphone work really well .. So I really never have to meet people for real anymore or call them... hmmm Do I NEED a phone at all .. LOL
