The TV-fest that is CES was awash with chatter about 3D TV this year but our chums at What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision have found out that Philips, one of the main players, has decided to abandon its 3D TV development.The Philips 3D TV's main selling point (if it ever went on sale) was its ability to produce 3D images without the need for oh-so-stylish 3D specs – something that manufacturers have been struggling with for ages.Philips has pumped millions of euros into its WOWvx technology, but has now decided that 3D TV at a sensible price for the masses is a long way off.But don't lose hope, future fans – Panasonic continues its quest to bring 3D TV to market next year so you could be watching next year's Doctor Who Easter special in the third dimension.
