If Wolverine owned an 8GB USB drive....it probably wouldn't look like this

by Daniel Long  on Apr 15, 2009
We're betting that in some alternative universe, there's at least a few people geeky enough to purchase a Wolverine themed USB drive from Kingston. Die-hard X-Men fans need only apply for this overly kitschy movie-tie in.

Oh dear...is this a case of movie merchandising gone too far?  Kingston have launched a black and silver "X-Men Origins Wolverine" Special Edition DataTraveler USB Flash drive to tie-in specifically with the launch of the upcoming X-Men prequel.

While sleek, the USB key is geek heavy, with the X-Men Origins Wolverine theme covering much of the device. But we're guessing not even Wolvie himself would have gone as far as to own a USB key with his image, as cool as the idea may sound. It's just too kitschy to be taken seriously.

On the upside, the X-Men themed USB key will come preloaded with so called 'exclusive' X-Men Origins Wolverine contents, including the usual array of trailers, wallpapers and even IM icons.

Let's face it - anyone desperate to buy one of these, has already seen every trailer, bought every poster and tried to dress as Logan/ Wolverine every Halloween. The pirated DVD release is continuing to make the rounds online, so this should serve as a sweet, if short diversion from the real issues at stake around the film. Though at $39.95, Kingston have created a very tempting price tag to lure unsuspecting movie geeks.

It's doubtful Wolverine would even use a USB key...

Users who buy any Kingston X-men product over the next month can register in an online draw to win a bunch of nice prizes including an Acer Aspire One netbook and oddly, a Kingston Limited-edition Terra Cotta Warrior USB. Did they say Terra Cotta? Perhaps the Wolverine USB isn't as weird as we initially thought. But a unique sub-culture of weird and wondering USB keys has us curious.
