The Australian Computer Society (ACS) has withdrawn a survey critical of mobile operator Hutchison's third generation mobile network.

According to the survey, released in December, ACS members' responses -- about the performance of Hutchison's 3 network and its responses to customer complaints -- were mostly negative.

On Friday the ACS announced it was withdrawing the survey and related media release, and apologised to Hutchison for any damage the survey might have inadvertently caused. ACS said the move to withdraw the survey followed discussions with Hutchison about its handling of service issues.

ACS president, Edward Mandla, said the ACS had accepted assurances that the mobile operator would directly address any 3-related customer concerns from ACS members.

"It was never our intention to harm the reputation of Hutchison Telecoms or its ground-breaking third generation mobile network and we regret any damage that might have occurred," Mandla said.

"We are very pleased with the way in which Hutchison has responded to our concerns, including their willingness to receive ACS suggestions about future innovative solutions on the 3 network, a development which will benefit all business customers," he added.
