Microsoft's new anti-Apple video, this time it's the price argument

Another "I'm a PC" ad hits the Web, and this time Microsoft is rolling out the "PCs are cheaper" argument in its war with Apple.

Here's hoping that by the time Windows 7 arrives around, Microsoft will have more to spruik about PCs than the old chestnut: "Hey, they're cheaper!".

In the latest ad, a red-haired woman named Lauren goes shopping for a laptop with "speed, a comfortable keyboard, and a 17in screen" for under US$1,000. First stop, the Mac store, and guess what? There's only one computer available at that price and it's a 13in model. Is this what Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer alluded to recently, when he declared Apple as an overpriced logo?

Lauren then hurries off to a PC store, where lo and behold, there's an Aladdin's cave of cheap laptops in many shapes and sizes. Her pick? An HP Pavilion notebook for a measly $699.

While we applaud the effort, we're not sure many Mac afficionados will see the battle in terms of value for money. Judge for yourself. Here's the clip.

"I'd almost buy a Mac just to get back at the people who made me watch that awful clip."

Well...unfortunately...Macs are more expensive than PCs, not even Apple fans can ignore this fact. Anyway, choose whatever suitable for you.

While you do applaud the effort, it sickens me to see that people who own a mac feel the need to separate themselves based on the pc line. This ad is not intended for the apple fans, it was never intended to convert people from one platform to another. It was meant for the people who are thinking about getting a pc. You obviously missed the point of pc architecture, its meant to be an "Aladdin's cave of cheap" everything. Part of the reason is because you don't have to buy apple branded wifi cards that have crippled drivers so that when the apple releases the new wireless router with support for 54g you pay $9 for the 54g drivers.
