You've got to hand it to Dell - somehow they found a way to generate the kind of buzz about product design usually reserved for Apple's iPhone and MacBooks.
In case you hadn't hear of the Adamo, the video is here. This is Dell's entry into the luxury notebook market, with a thin and light design to rival the MacBook.

Unfortunately for Dell, in these "uncertain economic times" what's getting all the attention is the Adamo's starting price - US$1,999.
On the one hand, it's going to be hard to justify $3,000+ for a notebook (if that is how much the Adamo costs if and when it debuts in Australia). Especially when portable 13in Macbooks start at $2,099, and the 1.6GHz Macbook Air starts at $2,899.
On the other, you're paying for a fully featured portable, that's very thin, very light, and has goodies that you won't see in a cheap notebook (or netbook), like an SSD drive, a healthy 2GB RAM, and not least, a Core 2 Duo CPU (or a low voltage 1.2GHGz U9300 at least).
Does the Adamo deserve the title of "MacBook killer"? Here's some of the hype:
- Super thin. Dell claims the Adamo is the "thinnest in the world", though Apple's Air is slightly smaller in width and depth.
- 13.4 inch screen with super thin bezel
- Slick design. Most of the ports are on the rear of the machine.
- Unibody design. Like another notebook brand we can think of.
- Light. Though as Wired has pointed out, it's heavier than the Air
- Funky packaging including a clear box, if that floats your boat.
Incidentally, Dell says "Adamo" is derived Latin "to fall in love".
Reports say Dell will be taking orders Tuesday (US time). We've put in a call to Dell's Australian reps for information on local availability. UPDATE: Dell has released Australian pricing for the Adamo. The machne will be priced from $3,699.
