MySpace mobile recharge app is an Australian world first

by Daniel Long  on Mar 13, 2009
Not unlike the MySpace credit card in the US, the MySpace recharge app will reward Aussie MySpace users for charging up their mobiles with a range of prizes and promotional giveaways.

Recently, we reported on the MySpace credit card that was launched in the USA by banking giant - Citi group.  Now, it's been revealed that Aussie MySpace users will get something slightly less gimmicky; this one doesn't carry credit and it doesn't come with a VISA symbol. It's a mobile recharge application for rewarding diligent MySpacers who use the service to top up their phone credit.  And for once, it's an Australian world first.

All the major telco networks have jumped on board to sponsor the recharge concept. By recharging with the MySpace Recharge, users can take advantage of various discounts and MySpace freebies.

A MySpace spokesperson tells us that a number of Aussie telco's have offered different incentives to encourage people to recharge. For instance, Optus are providing their customers with a free $10 Top Up product for recharges of $40 or more.

Nick Love, Business Development Director of MySpace says that "it's really exciting for us to launch a new "useful" application - making it even easier for our users to conduct ever day activity right from the comfort of their MySpace profile".

Love them or not, but we have to give MySpace the credit for trying new approaches. We're yet to see Facebook pull the same stunt; but perhaps it's only a matter of time.

To get involved with the launch activities for the recharge app, MySpace are giving away a bunch of prizes including 15 iPod touch devices and 15 iPod Nano's. For more details, check out the official MySpace recharge site.
