Travelling? Ditch your chargers with USB sleep-and-charge

by William Maher  on Mar 11, 2009
Toshiba's business notebooks now include 3 USB sleep-and-charge ports. Good news if you're looking to lighten your travel bag.

If you're like us, you probably find you need a special bag compartment just for phone, camera, and other chargers when you travel.

Phones and cameras that can be charged via USB are a great way to lighten the load and ditch some of those extra chargers - but you need a free USB port, and the notebook needs to be on.

Toshiba's is pushing USB "sleep-and-charge" as one way to make the whole charging thing a bit easier. Select models in the new business notebook range have up to 3 USB sleep-and-charge ports, which work while the notebook is turned off.

Personally, I'm waiting for wireless charging or fuel cells - anything that gets rid of the whole "replace batteries" issue forever. But until then, this is one thing that should help.
