Baz Luhrmann's Australia in top 10 pirated movie list

Baz Luhrmann's Australia in top 10 pirated movie list

Australia is one of the 10 most pirated movies on the Internet, despite its mixed critical reception.

Critics were divided over Baz Luhrmann's epic (or in the case of Hugh Jackman's shower scene, perhaps they were cringing), but it seems Internet users are doing a roaring trade in illegal copies.

Since late February the movie has been one of the top 10 most pirated movies on the Internet, according to TorrentFreak, which compiles statistics from downloads via BitTorrent.

Australia is sitting in seventh position on TorrentFreak's Top 10 list, behind Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino, after debuting in 2nd spot in late February.

It seems Hugh Jackman's shower scene was even enough to beat Kate Winslet's controversial Oscar-winning performance in The Reader, which sits in ninth position.

Movies higher up the list, other movies on the top 10 list include Valkyrie in fourth position, Slumdog Millionaire in third place, and Twilight in first position.

How accurate these stats are we're not so sure, but it at least confirms Internet users aren't fazed by what the critics say.

"but it at least confirms Internet users aren't fazed by what the critics say." Not sure I agree with your conclusion. I would suggest it's more likely that few people want to pay to see a movie of this ilk.
