Netbook player and smartphone maker confirms early plans for its own app store
App stores are the must–have accessory for tech's biggest companies in 2009. Apple and Google have been at the party for an age, and following on from last week's news of BlackBerry App World, comes Acer's own plans for a virtual shop of its own.

According to Unwired View, the company's CEO told a gathering of mobile bigwigs that his team were, "...examining the viability of an app store." It certainly ties in with its recently unveiled WinMo phones, which were somewhat underwhelming compared to other devices aired at MWC.

However, there remain big questions about how it would work with Acer's OS providers offering their own app stores. Windows Skymarket will tout extras built for Acer phones, and with plans for an Android phone also at an advanced stage, we can't see Google being too keen on this either.

For more app–based joy, make sure you keep an eye out for our iPhone and iPod Touch app of the week.
