Joining the well reviewed Samsung Omnia, the F480 is the latest touchscreen release from Samsung to offer seemingly everything a mobile user could want, including an 'almost' large enough 2.8" screen, a 5MP camera with facial recognition, haptic feedback for touchscreen vibrations, an FM radio, video player and Panorama shot maker.
Judging by the design of the phone, which seems to be in accordance with Samsung's earlier models (such as the Omnia), we feel that teenage girls will be all over the hyper-coloured, credit card sized touch mobile - the type of phone that desperately wants to remind people that it's infinitely cooler than the iPhone.
Looking to attract the valuable Gen Y street cred, the F480 is also available in a range of MTV inspired pop video colours, including the aptly named Ice Silver, Coral Pink and Topaz Gold.
The F480 bridges the small gap between the emergence of mobile bling-bling and Smartphone functionality, adding 8GB of MicroSD memory, Smile Recognition for those perfectly toothy grins (or lack of) and image stabilisation for more attractive handheld pictures to impress your mates on Facebook.
An improved UI (user interface) has been added in the way of TouchWiz, new software that allows for better drag and drop controls within the proprietary Samsung OS.
We imagine that at next year's Grammy's, there will be at least one RAP/RNB artist pimping their Ice cold Silver F480 as the ultimate mobile accessory in a world of Topaz Gold neck chains and Diamond tooth grills and fillings. Now that we think of it, that's possibly an awesome name for a mobile colour design - 'diamond tooth white'. Samsung, you have my number.
The Samsung website has more info on the phone, if you're still dreaming of ways to buy one. Or if you just want to be the first of your friends to go anti-iPhone, the F480 will retail for $699, not far off the cost of a brand new locked iPhone on eBay.
The Samsung F480 is out now and not locked to any particular network, unlike most of the competition, which is a small relief.
