You’d think that punting the desktop PC into oblivion would be the last thing on the minds of Microsoft, but it seems that the computing giant has submitted a patent for a “smart interface system” for smartphones.
Essentially a dock for your (presumably) WiMo-packing phone, it’d include an output for a monitor, an Ethernet connection, and a USB hub as well as some smart software to detect different user environments.
It looks as if Microsoft has an eye on a bringing computing to PC-less households, not a bad idea, considering smartphones can already handle many of the common tasks that we do on our desktops.
It would mean that just by plugging in you could attach a keyboard and a monitor to transform your blower into something resembling a desktop. There might even be outputs for audio and video, so that you can play all your hilarious camphone clips on a decent screen.
