Nintendo was the final winner in the battle of the consoles during 2008, sales figures show.
Now that the December sales figures are out, it is possible to see quite how spectacular those sales were.

According to analysts NPD, while the IT industry in general slowed, it seems that the disparity between the Wii and its rivals grew thoughout December.

Overall the console market grew by nine per cent over December and 19 per cent over the year.

Leading the sales was the DS handheld which sold 3.04 million. The Wii sold 2.15 million units.
