Strap on your virtual party pants, Sony has confirmed news that Australian PS3 owners will get PlayStation Home access later today.
While we're not so excited about the prospect of wacking a virtual Diesel designer jacket on our PlayStation Home avatar, the prospect of movie and gaming goodies in Home has us curious.
Sony has kindly confirmed for us that Australians will be able to start using sometime today (possibly later this evening, we're told), giving them the ability to roam freely throughout Sony's virtual universe, or Second Life rip-off, if you're feeling cynical.
The download is free, and it's free to walk around and chat, though advertisers ("partners" as Sony calls them) already seem to be jumping all over the thing - including Diesel, Red Bull, and even a furniture company.
At this stage there are two bits that have grabbed our attention:
A: a Far Cry 2 "space" will be created for discussing strategies, and getting extra goodies, vaguely referred to as "content and clues". Other game themed areas include Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, MotorStorm and SOCOM.
B: Paramount Picture will use Home to promote its film Watchmen, with trailers viewable within the Home environment. While Youtube is undoubtedly a simpler way to do this, the prospect of chewing the fat over big blockbuster trailers with like-minded fanboys has us intrigued (and a little scared).
So there it is. By the time you get home from work/wake up from a WoW-induced stupor tonight, it's possible you'll have a shiny new PlayStation Home icon when you boot your PS3 (for those with PlayStation Network accounts).
