Dark Knight smashing Blu-Ray, BitTorrent records

by William Maher  on Dec 10, 2008
I once heard my local Blockbuster manager cruely toying with a hapless punter by describing Blu-Ray as a "government conspiracy". Not any more.
The days of Blu-Ray being some mysterious buzzword are over, if the ridiculous sales stats coming out of the UK are true. Apparently more than 100,000 discs of the Joker flashing his lipstick everywhere were sold on the first day in shops - breaking a record for Blu-Ray sales in the UK.

All well and good, though it still pales compared to the illegal download frenzy going on online, where Dark Knight is reportedly is on the way to becoming the most pirated film of 2008 (we're waiting to see the special trophy). Looks like those anti-piracy operations have a way to go yet.

Apart from the freaky performance by Heath Ledger, there's a number of other things that make Dark Knight on Blu-Ray more than a curiosity. The BD-Live function (if you have a compatible player - see here for our Blu-Ray Buyer's Guide) is already getting a warts and all dissection on various sites. You can record your own commentary, and listen to other wanna-be movie reviewers wax lyrical, though the signup process has been painfully described as "like setting up a WoW account".
