TiVo is changing from boring PVR into a virtual 7/11 convenience store - well, that's the theory.
In addition to Tivo's recent announcement that will start offering Blockbuster/Video Ezy movies for download, TiVo have announced a strategic partnership with Dominos that will allow pizza lovers to bypass the phone and dial a pizza through the TV remote. But it won't get up and running until the first quarter of next year.
We must be getting lazier, because we would of thought that it only takes around 2 minutes to call the pizza delivery phone line. But it's supposedly all about greater 'convenience'. Although, if you don't have a Dominos near your house, the TiVo is unlikely to offer any substitutes. Pizza Hut anyone?
TiVo has also announced a partnership with DMG radio, who own and operate the NOVA and VEGA FM brands. Perhaps TiVo are convinced that our homes are now empty of radios too. They say they might work on adding more stations if the DMG partnership is a success, though its a 'wait and see' kinda thing.
Radio on the TiVo - what about music downloads? Online flowers? Supermarket groceries? They're all in the pipeline too we're told.
Weather, horoscopes, games - TiVo will be adding these also. The TiVo is a 'media device' now; supposedly a hipper way of saying - "our device does everything!" Maybe one day it cook and clean for us? Offer us life advice? Financial tips? TiVo, we're waiting . . .
