Nikon D3x DSLR on the way?

There have been rumblings about Nikon releasing a new high-end DSLR camera for a while, but it now seems that the D3x is official. Or at least semi-official.
A page for the camera apparently popped up on the Nikon USA website. Then realising their error, someone at Nikon took it down - but not before it had been spotted and shared by a number of eagle-eyed web users, including one who helpfully took a screenshot of the page and uploaded it to Nikon Rumors.

Sadly the page didn't give up any details of the D3x's specs or features, but we'd presume that, as with the D40 and D40x, it'll be a more advanced version of the D3, Nikon's full-frame 12MP prosumer DSLR.

Rumours suggest an 18MP CMOS sensor might be the chief difference, although given the fact that the D3 takes the finest 12MP shots we've ever seen, we're not sure a new sensor is really needed. And given that the "vanilla" D3 costs more than $7,000, what's this super-deluxe model going to do to our wallets?
