HTC Touch Diamond: ROM update eases lag issue

Good news if you splashed out on this iPhone rival. Annoying lag issues which we hammered the HTC Touch Diamond for are alleviated by a new ROM update.
Since we first reviewed the HTC Touch Diamond , HTC have released a handy ROM update (click on spotlight on the bottom of the page), designed to solve one of the big problems that we highlighted with the phone initially – its lack of speed.

And, to a large extent, it works: there are now no unbearable delays within the TouchFlo 3D interface, even if it isn’t quite as sprightly as we would really like.

At this point in time, the ROM update is only available to Telstra network customers.

And the irritation of the on-screen keyboard overlapping the field
that you’re trying to type into is another problem that has been fixed.

However, we still hesitate to recommend it – entering text via the onscreen keyboard remains a chore, and the Diamond itself is expensive.

But it's a strong contender if you're looking for a stylish, touch driven Windows Mobile phone.

What a load of rubbish. There has not been a ROM upgrade for Australian customers despite HTC already having one in their posession and releasing it overseas in Europe, Asia and USA. I asked support when it would be available and received a contemptuous response stating that an upgrade will be released when it/they are ready. What a dissapointing experience to what should have been a celebration for an Apple competitor..

Any update to when this may be available. Very disappointing when PC Authority don't get their facts right.

I would like to know where PC Authority got their information from regarding the Telstra Rom update? It DOESN'T exist! I've been in contact with HTC support and they assure me that there isn't any Telstra ROM update available (especially not in the forseeable future). The ROM listed on their website is the original one that ships with the Telstra branded phone. I'm very disappointed in PC Authority as I bought this phone based on their indication that a ROM update was available and would fix most issues with the phone.
If anyone is interested in buying this phone - DON'T. There are several issues that I have with the phone that they cannot fix (eg Daylight saving - they say it's Microsofts fault buy they're the ones selling the phone, or the inability to turn the alarm off)
