ISP to offer free streaming UK Premier League football. Good news if you're waiting for the kickoff on August 16.
It's seemingly not enough to just offer broadband connections any more -- witness the seemingly thousands of products that Telstra' slaps its BigPond logo on, for example. Or iiNet, which today announced that it would be offering UK Premier League Football from the 16th of August free to its broadband customers.
That's both "free" as in there's no extra charge for the matches, and "free" in that iiNet won't count the data cost of the streams (which will be in .WMV format, and require Media Player 10) against user's monthly caps. Not bad value if you're into what our friends at 442 Magazine call Football, especially as Fox Sports (who are providing the actual coverage) would sting you for $125 for the same season pass otherwise.
The UK Premier League kicks off on the 16th of August with Arsenal vs West Bromwich Albion at 12:45 UK time (9:45pm AEST). The release notes that up to four live games and five recorded games (within six hours of the completion of each game) will be made available, so those with football-mad significant others can look forward to them spending many wee hours of Saturday and Sunday morning being spent hunched in front of a notebook screen, rather than the TV.
