Wii copycats attack!
Sony and Microsoft are set to release a Wii-styled motion controller. They were rumoured to announce the products at this year’s E3, but now we're hearing whispers of it happening later in the year.
Our report
has a little more details, including links to some interesting prototype designs.
No Final Fantasy VII remake
That lingering Final Fantasy VII remake rumour has now been debunked according to a Playstation lifestyle
blog post.
Dirt cheap, Dell E surprises.
It hasn’t even been released here yet, but the Dell E could go for as little as
US$299 in August
, making it one of the cheapest ultraportables on the market. It’s got a pretty spec list that includes: Linux, an Intel 1.6GHz Atom processor, a 1024 x 600 display, 3x USB, SSD, integrated webcam, WiFi, and weighs around a kilo. We’re not second guessing the Aussie price, but expect it to be in the same ballpark.
iPhone will get turn by turn
According to this
Apple source
, there are concrete plans to release ‘turn by turn’ GPS (e.g Tomtom) software very soon for the iPhone. But they did mention there would be no cut and paste apps available – still.
Macbook Air to debut 256GB SSD model
In other Apple rumours, we've heard whispers than the Macbook Air is set to debut a 256GB SSD model later in the year, according to this
AppleInsider source
.
More choices, more Eee
Another week goes by and another version of the Eee PC is launched. The
Chinese Asus site
is showing a new 30GB version. Australian shipping dates are unknown at this moment. But, what we do know is that the Eee 1000H is here in Australia and sports an 80GB HDD, 10” screen and will sell for $699.
The end of the PSP?
Death to the Sony PSP – that’s what one writer is calling it over at
Popular Mechanics
. The soon to be released
Spore
game has shafted the PSP platform all together, leading some to assume the PSP's days are numbered.
Reader Rumour Bag
We're hearing mutterings on the grapevine that customer dissatisfaction with the current iPhone data plans could see Optus announce new iPhone plans with increased data allowances that can be purchased as pre-paid extras. No word from Optus, but some speculate they could be released as early as mid August.
We say: It’s an interesting move, considering Optus has by far the best value of all the iPhone plans available at the moment. Come on Vodafone insiders, let’s hear some news.

Interesting, then, to read about new rumours of a redesigned PSP-3000 model, which includes a microphone (and maybe more?). Also interesting to see new PSP games like Super Stardust Portable announced at E3, and further confirmation that Gran Turismo Portable is still in the works... Add this to the fact that the PSP has been leading (yes, more than DS) the Japanese sales charts for the past few weeks and it makes this a pretty dramatic leap. All because the iPhone is getting a spore spinoff that the PSP isn't? Right.

I agree, that writer from popular mechanics must of been smoking something heavy. The PSP is not headed anywhere near extinction. On the contrary, it will probably go the way of the iPhone if we're lucky. But that's why they're called rumours after all!
