Intel promises you'll be able to watch a full Blu-Ray movie on a single battery charge, once again highlighting the woeful battery problems facing laptop users.
The news might come as a welcome relief if you were previously considering splashing out a few thousand dollars on a previous generation laptop for a spot of Blu-ray watching.

Centrino 2 has been on the cards for a long while now, and has some specific tricks in store, including:
- WiMax (though not likely in Australia yet)
- Intel's 45nm Penryn Core 2 Duo chips
- Better onboard graphics (GMA X4500)
- Ability to switch between onboard and discrete graphics
- Full Blu-Ray movie on a single charge

Given that many sub $1,000 notebooks would struggle to get through a DVD, let alone a Blu-Ray movie, this comes as welcome news.

We'll be at Intel's official launch tomorrow, and will report on any extra news then.

Its NOT the chipset but rather the OS that is responsible for poor battery life... on my Dell laptop with Vista installed... I get about 40 minutes run time... with XP installed it gets about 2 1/2 hours.

Take those 'sub $1000' notebooks and put XP or Linux on them and you would have NO PROBLEM getting 2 1/2 hours out of them. The 'struggle' is caused by Vista.

I think the issue is that battery technology it too infant, and the power consumption is too high.
