Dell launches College Gaming League

PC vendor to back university gaming circuit.
Dell is backing a new gaming league for universities.

The new program will establish a set of private servers, organise tournaments and offer hardware discounts for college students and faculty members.

Registration for the league, which will be known as the College Gaming League (CGL), will be open to all university students. The college league will serve as an amateur counterpart to the newly-formed professional Championship Gaming Series (CGS).

In addition to individual tournaments, the company plans to host a national championship tournament for school teams and special 'play with a pro' nights where students will be able to compete with professional gamers.

The league will also serve as a feeder program for the professional circuit. The top college players in the CGL will be flown out for a combine tournament and entry into the Championship Series draft.

"We’re very excited to partner with Dell on the College Gaming League," said CGS chief executive and commissioner Andy Reif.

"Together, we’ll reach hundreds of campuses in the U.S. and engage a huge number of students to find out which schools have the top players and which of them will have a chance to join CGS as professional gamers."
