Dreamworks shifts from AMD to Intel

PR coup de grace

Intel's favourite writer, Don Clark of the Wall Street Journal, reports that Dreamworks Animation SKG Inc. has dumped AMD and turned to Intel for its chips.

AMD has always bragged about its Hollywood connections and no doubt la Intella has been beavering away behind the scenes to get the studio to dump its rival.

The Journal says an upcoming animation Monsters vs. Aliens," "requires a significant amount of processing power to create its unique characters". Gibber, gibber.

It is apparently the upcoming Nehalem and Larrabee chippery that Dreamworks is getting all excited about.

According to a a press release that hasn't been sent out yet but which Don at the Journal has seen already, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Dreamworks Animation's chief executive is said to have said: "They are radical game-changers for the entire field of computing."

Financial arrangements haven't been disclosed yet, so we don't know whether Dreamworks is paying for the chips, or if it's the other way round.
