Nokia dusts off another classic, giving the GPS phone a makeover and a 5 megapixel camera.
The new 6220, like other recently branded Classics, bares no resemblance to the original 2004 model other than its candy bar form-factor, but does however build on the features of the Finnish phone maker’s 6120 Classic from last year.
As with Nokia’s flagship N95, photography takes centre stage here with a 5-megapixel camera featuring Carl Zeiss optics and a Xenon flash. This improved imaging hardware further supports VGA-quality video recording at 30fps.
Also added is integrated A-GPS which utilises the Nokia Maps 2.0 software for driving directions as well as the latest road trip activity of geotagging holiday snaps with location coordinates.
The handset’s high-speed HSDPA connection should make online activities such as uploading images and videos to personal blogs quick and painless, and there’s an integrated TV-out option for instant slide nights at home.
Most of the standard boxes are also ticked including the latest S60 interface, MicroSD memory slot, Bluetooth 2.0, Music player, FM radio, front camera and quad-band EDGE/GPRS support.
While not a deal breaker, one missing N-series feature is Wi-Fi, but so long as the 6220’s image quality measures up to its big brother it’s shaping up to be quite a steal at $689.
