Three today broke its silence on the 3G iPhone, by lifting its veil on its iPhone plans, or lack thereof. It wants customers to beg Apple on its behalf.
The official release admits that Three won't stock the iPhone at the time of the handset's July 11th launch. Instead, the company is launching a Web site (www.three.com.au/iphone) tomorrow where consumers can let Apple know how much they'd like a Three-branded iPhone. Yep; that's right -- Three would very much like its customers to beg Apple for the iPhone on their behalf. Of course, Three doesn't quite put it in those terms.
“Ever since Apple’s announcement that a 3G iPhone is coming, we’ve had lots of calls and emails – the main flavour is people wanting to get the value that 3 offers with the iPhone,” Noel Hamill, Director Sales, Marketing & Product at 3 is quoted as saying in the release.
“While we’ve been engaging with Apple to secure the iPhone for 3, we don’t know whether we can range it. We want Apple to see just how much our customers want the iPhone.”
At the time of writing, the URL www.three.com.au/iphone takes you to an IIS-backed Web Login form, and not much else.
