Sydney Apple Store T-shirts worth big dollars on eBay

"Only $150? Not worth it..."

Entrepreneurial Apple fans have turned lengthy 24 hour waits (and longer) into lucrative auction dollars by selling their commemorative T-shirts on eBay to the tune of big dollars.
From pain to profit, those courageous Apple fans who managed to brave the big crowds last Thursday night at the official Sydney Apple store opening are getting their sweet revenge by selling off the T-shirts given to them as a gift for their devotion.

At last count, there were 15 ‘Apple Store T-shirt’ auctions being listed on the Australian eBay site with most sellers buoyed by international interest in the commemorative T-shirt release and insisting they will ship internationally.

In recent years, the growing interest in Apple Stores popping up around the globe has attracted a new collecting craze for the limited release of city branded Apple store memorabilia that comes with each store opening.

One eBay seller with bids above $150, was even so bold to pronounce their spot in the line (11th, they wrote on their listing), with a picture of an overexcited Apple Geek clasping their free Apple gift in-hand.

The majority of auctions are sailing over the $50 dollar mark with plenty of bidders showing interest in the kitschy blue Sydney t-shirts.

How anybody can prove this with just with a photograph of a hand holding a small cardboard box, we're not sure.

2500 ‘Sydney Apple Store’ T-shirts were released to the first people to enter the store, with each described as geeky hulk sized XL, with date and wave motifs etched into each T-shirt to commemorate the opening.

Long lines that wrapped around from the middle of George Street all the way back down to Kent Street caused varying degrees of commuter chaos, but were enough to prove to the Apple devoted that some of the best things in life are often worth waiting for, even if it’s just a blue T-shirt.

There are some very, very sad and lonely people out there. People who are buying free t-shirts from Apple on eBay need to go outside and discover a world of amazing things. People and their cultures, sight seeing and great things, languages, books and history. These people should have a jail sentence against them where they are banned from wearing their earphones for a long time and being involved in their own little Nano world. GET A LIFE YOU SAD PEOPLE!

I totally agree with M9ROC...

I heard on the radio that night, that someone had been lining up since 6am. What did they buy you ask?

An iTunes gift card! Woah! Don't go too crazy now....

But they got their free tshirt! That was worth it I'm sure...

Have you never lined up for a concert before? Or a movie? Cherished the excitement of being one of the first to attend any kind of event?

It's all about passion one person has; the interest they invest.

Listen, it's the journey, not the destination. You only get out of life what you put in....

Just that some people like to buy other people's history and collect what they didn't earn. Where's the excitement in that? What's to cherish in a t-shirt that someone bought for $150 for the efforts in someone else queing?

I totally understand waiting in line for tickets for concerts, meeting an idol, etc. But for a store opening to get a free tshirt? For me personally, no thanks.

Once again, you're not getting a T-shirt, you're getting an experience. In all that waiting, do you think that those people worried about the size of the T-shirt or the color?
The T-shirt obviously represents symbolic value to these people. It's not just 'another T-shirt'. It's more than that. Most of those people would of still lined up even to recieve no T-shirt at all. The experience, no matter how invalid it is to you holds a certain level of satsifaction and excitement to these people. Just in the same way that you won't be attracted to the same person I will be, or like the same hobbies and eat all the same food. If you prefer facism as one has remarked before, then it's best you understand the disilluisonment of that particular system.

In waiting in line, there is a level of indivual silence which is enough to make these people feel right about their descion to wait long hours. It can be summed up like this:
“Do not speak unless you can improve the silence” & “Silence is a source of great strength.”
