Chinese manufacturers have been given the thumbs-up to start pumping out Blu-Ray products next year. Prepare for an influx of discs and players you've never heard of.
Eleven chinese companies have been given the official blessing of the Blu-ray Disk Association (BDA) to begin the manufacture of BD disks, drives and players starting next year according to China Tech News.

The manufacturers - including TCL, Malata and Desay - have in some cases moved to the BD format from the now deceased HD DVD system.

It has been estimated that kit fitted with BD drives will reach 5.3 million this year and top 11 million by 2009.

How many Chinese factories will be churning out BD-branded kit without the blessing of the organisation remains to be seen but you can be pretty sure that sub-£100 Hi Def disk spinners will be with us sooner rather than later.

I wish I had a bluy-ray player... alas, I'm stuck with plain ol' bluray.

I thought the HD wars were over with the demise of HD-DVD, but I'm somewhat saddened to see a new standard emerge after I'd settled for my PS3 and blu-ray.

It is the same standard, not a different one - the title just has a typo in it.
