IDG World Expo, organsier of the Apple-centric Macworld tradeshow, has confirmed that next year's US summer expo will be moved to Boston from its previous appearances in New York.
The proposed move, first raised by IDG last year, wasn't received favourably from Apple. Enjoying the glitz and media coverage of New York, the company released a statement that it would not be attending the expo if it was held in Boston.
Last Friday the move was confirmed by IDG, despite recent press announcements that the benefits of the relocation were still being considered. Evidently, it was decided that an Apple-less Macworld would be better in the long run for consumers and vendors.
It's hard to imagine that not having Apple attend its own party, along with the product announcements that make up Steve Jobs' popular keynote speech, will be a successful venture. If IDG were calling Apple's bluff, it hasn't worked.
IDG was also forced to can this year's Tokyo Macworld in March after Apple withdrew from the event.
