All the space you need, with no caps on storage or bandwidth sounds pretty good - just watch out for the fine print.
The new email and Web hosting plans, from MYOB (who also do accounting software), grabbed our attention after we took a quick look at the MYOB site and found little mention of storage or bandwidth caps.
In fact, MOYB says on their site "they'll supply "all the space you need for your website and email". We called MYOB's spokesperson who confirmed "there are no set caps" on server and bandwidth, though restrictions apply.
The MYOB web hosting deal charges $29.95 per month, which compares favourably with two major hosting competitors in Australia - including $39.95 for a 4GB hosting deal at Ausweb and a $79.95 deal for a 'business-plus' solution at Melbourne IT which only includes 20GB of server space. It will be interesting to see where MYOB draws the line at excessive usage and whether customers can better the data rates at these rival hosters.
To get in on the act though, you'll need to keep in mind these restrictions:
- customer must be an Australian business
- only email messages under 10MB will be delivered and accepted
- uploaded files must be smaller than 20MB
- email accounts must be smaller than 500MB (though you can have as many as you want)
- you can't "knowingly" allow another site to link to content files in your account
As expected, the fine print reveals some "excessive usage" terms, with MOYB saying it reserves right to throttle bandwidth for in cases of excessive usage. The terms and condition also mentions "additional charges" for usage.
While overseas hosting can be much cheaper, Australian-based hosting can be attractive for businesses wanting the peace of mind of local support lines, and local domain registrations.
