Internode drops $39 transfer fee

After cutting 8Mbps plan costs, the ISP gets aggressive and offers temporary "free churn". Upgrade fees have also been dropped, so if you're an Internode user wanting more speed, now's the time.
The ISP is dropping the $39 fee until June 30 in an effort to convince people using rival ISPs to switch.

If you're stuck on a 24 month contract then this probably won't be of much help, but for everyone else this could ease the pain of switching providers. Changing ISPs has been a nightmare for many people in the past, so anything that helps ease the pain gets a big thumbs up from us.

In fact, we've asked Internode whether they might consider dropping the churn fee altogether - we'll let you know what the answer is, but don't hold your breath. [UPDATE: Internode spokesperson John Harris got back to us on this, saying the reason is "because the Fast Transfer process incurs an underlying cost for Internode. The free period is a marketing incentive for a limited period to gauge its effects on our customer signup rate."]

Today's news comes on the back of other pricing tweaks by Internode which give hope of more price rivalry in the ADSL space. As well as the free churn offer Internode is:

- Reducing price of ADSL Plus (8MBps) plans by $5
- dropping $20 fee to upgrade speeds (until June 30)
- increased warranty of ADSL hardware from 12 to 24 months
- excess data fees for business plans reduced from 5 cents to 0.5 cents per MB.

On the downside, early cancellation fees for Internode customers now apply to the first 12 months, instead of 6 months.
