Iomega's new ScreenPlay HD Multimedia Drive holds 750 hours of video but here's the beautiful thing - it hooks up to your TV and you can sit back with the supplied remote..
Storage firm Iomega has unveiled its ScreenPlay HD Multimedia Drive, a portable external hard drive that delivers multimedia content to HD televisions and home cinema systems.

The 500GB drive can hold up to two million photos, 9,250 hours of music or 750 hours of video. The drive seems to be only available on the Iomega US site at the moment for US$218.45.

ScreenPlay comes with a remote control and includes HDMI, component and composite video, and Scart (RGB) for displaying high-resolution digital photos and video.

The unit weighs under 1Kg and measures about the size of a paperback book. Inside is a 3.5in 7,200 RPM drive formatted with the NTFS file system.

Audio connection options include composite RCA and coaxial S/PDIF outputs. PC transfers use the USB 2.0 interface. USB, composite video, and component video cables are included.

"Today's mainstream home entertainment products are entering the HD era, which presents a huge opportunity for media devices in the living room," said Loren Bryner, ScreenPlay product manager at Iomega.

Using the HDMI or component outputs, the user can choose video settings from 480i/480p/720p/1080i. 720p and 1080i are achieved through upscaling.
