Zeppelin is Rolls-Royce of iPod speakers

It's oval, it's got tweeters and woofers, and it plugs into your TV too - a cheap alternative to home theatre systems?
Sitting 7.8inches high and 25inches wide, this mother-of-all iPod speakers has landed in Australia with all sorts of claims about the oval shape being an "ideal baffle" for minimizing "spurious reflections".

Oval speaker debates aside, the Zeppelin tries hard to be a "proper" speaker, stuffing tweeters, a midrange driver (sharing 25w per channel) and a 50w bass woofer, under the polished stainless steel and cloth.

The big drawcard are the video out ports (S-Video and Composite), which in theory could be used to "channel images from your iPod to a TV". Given the $999.95 price, turning this portabole speaker into a mini-home theatre setup (of sorts) mightn't be a bad idea, though it's not going to have the thump of a dedicated multi-speaker system.

The Zeppelin is also meant to be portable, though at 7.5Kg it's a far cry from the compact BluAnt M1 we looked at recently. There' no Bluetooth either, which would make an interesting addition, though likely difficult considering the power requirements of the Zeppelin.

1000 bucks for some ipod speakers??? Like, it looks nice and all, but you can get a pretty nice home theatre setup for $1000, including receiver and 5.1 speaker setup. What sort of overcashed up yuppies is the target market here anyway?

Bowers and Wilkins are the creme de la creme of high performance speakers. They create high-end, high priced speakers that compete with the industry big guns like Linn Products etc. These speakers are for enthusiasts, the discerning music lover who wants the best in quality - and is willing to pay for it. The Zeppelin speakers allow such a user to have a funky, room-portable option instead of the standard monolithic floor speakers. Additionally, they will capture a younger, style conscious audience - the type that Bang & Olufsen attract.
