Notebook vendors jumping on Blu-Ray

With the death of HD-DVD the floodgates have opened on Blu-Ray notebooks. Now its Asus' turn with one of the most powerful multimedia laptops we've ever seen.

A couple of days ago we had news of Acer's new Blu-Ray notebook , which grabbed our attention with an 18.4inch screen and $2699 price.

Now Asus have thrown the attention over to their new laptop, the 17inch, Blu-Ray enabled M70. The $3699 laptop features a WUXGA screen at 1920x1200 pixels, incorporating a 16:10 aspect ratio. It’ll also play games and features a 1GB ATI Mobile Radeon HD3650 graphics card, 4GB of memory and an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 CPU (2.5Gz).

Asus is also pushing this computer for its multimedia capabilities, offering Dolby Home Theatre sound, with Altec Lansing speakers – some of the best sound brands on the market. You’ll also notice that the boring old touchpad has also been given a stylish workover and transforms into a multimedia touch centre.

But the coolest feature has to be the storage size – a whopping 1 terabyte of storage, separated into two 500GB drives. A laptop with this much storage is truly staggering compared to where laptops were just a couple of years ago for double the price.
