Energy ratings aren't just for the fridge anymore. By trimming watts from its routers and modems, Linksys reckons it can save enough power to light 14,000 home for a day.
As an example, Linksys provided us with a side by side comparison analysis of two of their biggest selling routers – and compared the old with a new energy-improved model. The older router used 4.6 watts of power, but the new Energy Star certified router managed to use just 2.6 watts of power; a small, but definitely significant value over the long term.
Based on the figures Linksys provided, Linksys claims that the savings from its top 10 shipping product volume (of approximately 11 million routers), is enough power to light 14,000 homes for a day.
Linksys have redesigned their power adapters to compete with stringent energy saving performance standards that equates to better power reductions and overall power savings. In fact the Linksys products now meet EPA, US Department Of Energy and Australian State regulations for energy performance ratings.
The router company is pushing a host of new ‘Energy Star’ certified ratings on more than thirty of their products, including including wired and wireless routers, gateways, game adapters and modems.
Packaging is also getting an overhaul. The bio degradable packaging also features eco-friendly inks made from soy products and provides a 40% reduction based on their previous packaging, which Linksys say will save around 1.3 million trees and 790 aces of pine forests.
