Local computer manufacturer Pioneer Computers reckons they’ve managed to jump ahead of the market today with the release of the Dreambook Style 9008. Sure, it pretty much looks like any other notebook out there, but it’s what’s under the hood that makes the 9008 stand out – at least in theory.

The key attraction of the 9008 is the inclusion of Intel’s Centrino 2 platform, formerly known as Montevina, which includes the 45nm Penryn Core 2 Duo processor. It’s a smaller, more heat and energy efficient platform, which should be good for both computational needs and battery life.

While the exact processor used isn’t specified, Pioneer has let a number of other details out, including the use of the ATI Radeon M82 256M chip (which might preclude them from Centrino 2 badging status), as well as a maximum RAM size of 4GB,120-420GB Hard Disk and 15.4" TFT display. Check out the full specifications of the Dreambook Style 9008 here.

Remember how we said "reckon" at the start? Well, Pioneer is rather jumping the gun here in announcing the Dreambook Style 9008, as the Centrino 2 Platform isn’t scheduled for release until June 3rd at Computex Taipei. As such, the notebook’s only available on pre-order with pricing stated as "from $1399". Between now and June, the smart money says that plenty of other notebook providers will add a Montevina notebook or two to their offerings.

Isn't my Macbook Pro Montevina? Or is it just Santa Rosa with a Penryn?
