It's not the Air, but the X300 is close

Lenovo shoots for sex appeal with its super sleek 1.3kg ultra portable X300.
It's not the Air, but Lenovo's just unveiled X300 ultraportable is looking like a very solid rival.

The 1.3kg X300 is in the same weight bracket, but unlike the Air you get a slim DVD burner and multiple connection ports. Add 64GB SSD, a 13.3 inch backlit LED screen and a claimed 10 hours of battery life, and this is looking like a potential rival not only to the Air but also to other cutting edge ultraportables like Toshiba's R500.

Codenamed "Kodachi", the X300 measures 19mm at the thinnest point, not as gasp-inducing as the Air, but certainly slim enough to have several bloggers point out that it also fits into a large envelope.

Not surprisingly, bleeding-edge gear like this doesn't come cheap. The X300 starts at $3,999. Still it's the same price as Acer's so-sexy-it-hurts Ferrari 1100, and that machine weighs in at 1.91kg.

Oh dear, I am sure to be flamed for this pun, but I cannot resist. If Apple has given us the Air, does this mean Lenovo's X300 is the substance?

I think the X300 is the solution... and the Air is the precipitate. :P
