World’s most exclusive laptop?

by William Maher  on Feb 18, 2008
"Features are OK and looks too but why pay an extra $1-$2K for the Ferrari badge Would you pay Ferrari price for a Commodore with a Ferrari sticker on it? I wouldn't"

They’re individually numbered, and only 99 will be sold in Australia - so what’s so special about Acer’s new Ferrari 1100?
We're not used to thinking of brand new notebooks as rare collector's items, but Acer's Ferrari 1100 changes that.

Fork out $3,999 for the fancy 12.1-inch portable and you'll be entering possibly the most exclusive club of notebook owners we can think of. Only 99 of the Ferrari 1100's will go onsale in Australia - each individually hand numbered for those people who feel the need to prove the point.

So what do you get for the money? At 1.91Kg, the Ferrari doesn't exactly rival the Apple Air for weight, but it is feature packed. You get slot-loading DVD, backlit LED screen, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dolby Home Theatre audio, a Bluetooth mouse and mini VOIP phone. The notebook is powered by AMD's Mobile Turion 64 X2 (2.3GHz), and comes with integrated graphics courtesy of the ATI Radeon X1250. There's a carbon fibre shell and a few racing inspired touches like Ferrari logo, padle-style trackpad buttons, and a Formula 1 style "on" button. The 1100 goes onsale on February 21, and stockists will be listed seen on the Acer site here.

Acer says it wants to move into premium brand territory. This is the fourth product in its Ferrari lineup.
