Thanks to the limited interplanetary bandwidth, this low resolution photo was the first to be transmitted by the rover after landing. It is so soon after landing that it is shot through a dust covered protective cap, which is why it is so fuzzy.

In Pictures: (Almost) Live from Mars

We have been keeping one eye on NASA this week as it used a supersonic parachute and rocket powered sky-crane to land a rover the size of a small card on a whole other planet. In honour of how freaking amazing that is here are some of the first photos published from the Curiosity mission.
