Karina Sembe, Ukraine "If I shoot gay, bisexual, transgender or crossgender people, I don't do it in order to show their otherness. What I'm trying to do is express in a simple way that we're all equally vulnerable and at the same time to show that the blind hatred of those who are afraid to accept any kind of difference keeps filling lives of millions of queer people with suffering. People fighting for gay rights might have achieved huge results, particularly at the legislative level. However, no law can put an end to the rudimentary stigmatization, distorted dogma and misunderstanding, until the spiteful ignorance of the ones fades away and, thus, stops being the cause of lonely marginal suffering of the others. The latter (i.e. loneliness, despair and marginality of queer people) is the problem I'm trying to draw attention to in this segment of my portraiture."
